"Genki"
Brisbane’s go-to destination for Japanese groceries and products.
Our journey began in 2012 in the serene suburb of Alderley. Our founder, envisioned a place where local communities could discover and enjoy the richness of Japanese cuisine and culture.
Over the years, Genki Mart has expanded to four more locations – Brisbane CBD Charlotte Street, Tarragindi, Indooroopilly, Clayfield and Brisbane CBD Adelaide Street. – each adding a unique touch to the area it serves.

The Founder's
Story
In 1994, Mitch Fujimoto, an 18-year-old international student from Japan, arrived in Brisbane, Australia. Faced with the challenge of sourcing authentic Japanese ingredients, he identified a gap in the local market.
Almost two decades later, in 2012, Mitch filled this gap by establishing the first Genki Mart in Alderley, also known as the first Asian grocery store in Brisbane to secure a liquor license. Mitch’s dedication to offering a unique, authentic experience earned Genki Mart a beloved place in the local community, and the support of Japanese food lovers throughout Brisbane. This success led to expansions in Tarragindi in 2019, Brisbane City in 2020, and Indooroopilly in 2022.
In 2021, to foster a city-based community, Mitch initiated Genki Market. This Sunday market has since become a lively hub for the Genki Mart community. Mitch’s journey, defined by his unwavering commitment and innovation, continues to shape Genki Mart as a cherished spot for Japanese cuisine enthusiasts in Brisbane.
